Zithromax is one of the most prescribed antibiotics in the world. It is based on azithromycin — a semi-synthetic antibiotic with a wide spectrum of action; it is active against gram-positive, gram-negative and some anaerobic bacteria, except the ones that are resistant to erythromycin.

Zithromax may be prescribed by attending physicians for treatment of many different diseases, primarily respiratory, as well as in the treatment of otitis media, chlamydia, gonorrhea, malaria and many others.

Its active substance azithromycin was first synthesized in 1980 by Pliva company. Since 1988, it has been marketed in Eastern Europe under the Sumamed trade Mark, and later it was licensed by Pfizer and marketed in Western Europe under the Zithromax name. Now azithromycin is widely used around the world and it is on the WHO model list of essential medicines.

How does Zithromax work?

The active substance of Zithromax, azithromycin, is a broad spectrum antibacterial agent that acts bacteriostatically.

Azithromycin, when ingested, is well absorbed by the intestines and penetrates into human tissues. It inhibits bacteria’s protein synthesis, slowing down its growth and reproduction. At high concentrations, azithromycin has a bactericidal effect. According to the results of clinical tests, it acts many times stronger than erythromycin against most microorganisms.

How to use Zithromax?

Zithromax is available in the pill form for oral administration. Dosage of it depends on the disease and it’s severity. Before buying Zithromax in our pharmacy, you have to consult with your attending physician to determine the correct treatment regimen and dosage.

What contraindications Zithromax has?

Azithromycin is one of the least toxic antibiotics. Its incidence of side effects is even lower than that of other substances of the macrolide group, such as erythromycin and clarithromycin. Zithromax is equally safe for the treatment of children and adults, it is also prescribed for antibiotic therapy for pregnant women, because it does not affect the course of pregnancy and does not cause fetal malformations.

Common side effects of Zithromax include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. An allergic reaction such as anaphylaxis and diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile are also possible.

Zithromax is a modern antibacterial drug that is used in the treatment of a huge number of diseases, from respiratory tract infections to urogenital infections.  Azithromycin, synthesized at the end of the 20th century, has proved its effectiveness, for which it was included in the WHO model list of essential medicines and in many other state lists of the most important drugs. Nowadays you can buy Zithromax in our pharmacy at a low price.
